So is the IndyCar Series veteran's father-in-law, Greg Pickett of Alamo. Pickett is a noted racer in his own right, having won major national series races in four decades, and today he and Sharp will co-drive a car in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race of its Daytona Prototypes at Infineon Raceway. "It's been a long time since I doubled something," Sharp said. "But really it's fun. In a lot of ways it's just an ideal situation, getting do something with my father-in-law." Sharp raced against Pickett in the early '90s in the Trans-Am Series, where Sharp won multiple championships and true religion jeans Pickett was a leading contender. Sharp married Pickett's daughter Kimberly, and the couple live in Jupiter, Fla., with two children, daughter, Briana, and son, Jackson. "We get on so well," Sharp said. "We share so many of the same interests. He's a great driver, pretty amazing he's as fast as he is for his age." Sharp and Pickett teamed up once before this season in the Daytona Prototypes, in April at Laguna Seca, and Sharp also raced in the series' marquee event in January the 24 Hours of Daytona with another team. Alluding to his Trans-Am days, Sharp said he knows "firsthand" how good a driver Pickett is. "So if I can come and help him a little bit, it's an honor to be able to do it," Sharp said. DANICA-MANIA ETCHED IN INK: Danica Patrick is credited with attracting many non-racing fans to Indy racing, but she has her share of hard-core racing fans as well. Replica Porsche Design In a promotional appearance at a Meijer's store (think a Midwest Wal-Mart) in Kentucky before the last race, Patrick recalled: "I autographed this one guy's arm right under Michael Schumacher's car and autograph, and he goes, 'Do it real nice 'cause I'm going right to the tattoo parlor,' and I was like, 'Oh my God.' "And he came back the next day and said, 'See I got it.' I saw it at least four times the next day." LOVE, MARRIAGE AND WINNING: Asked how often she thinks about getting her first IndyCar win, Patrick said, "I do think about it a lot, and probably the second I stop thinking about it, it's going to happen. It's like when you're trying not to find your husband, and you do. That's the way it goes, isn't it?" Patrick married Paul Hospenthal last November. Hospenthal, a Phoenix sports therapist, works with professional athletes and is employed by the Oakland A's as well as the St. Louis Cardinals. They first met when he treated an injury Patrick suffered doing a yoga exercise. A couple of years later they started dating. FRIDAY'S RUNS: Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves posted the top speeds in practice sessions for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. Dixon posted a combined speed in the two sessions of 107.662 mph while Castroneves averaged 107.279 around the twisting 2.26-mile, 12- turn Infineon Raceway. Jan Magnussen claimed the pole position for today's Sonoma 250, recording the best time in the first Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series qualifying session at Infineon.
